8 UPCOMING MUSIC FESTIVALS IN SCOTLAND
There is a lot of anticipation for TRNSMT next week but that is just one of many music festivals that will be held across Scotland this year. Several of these festivals are making their return as reduced restrictions are allowing us to enjoy more mass gatherings again.
Here are some of the events music lovers in Scotland can look forward to over the next few months.
TIREE MUSIC FESTIVAL (JULY 8th to 10th)
The Tiree Music Festival CIC presents itself as more than a music festival. It is a true island adventure to one of the most stunning festival locations in the world. The slogan of the festival is “Where the Music meets the Ocean.”
The first festival was held in 2010 and resulted in a 600-capacity sell-out pilot event. In the years since, thanks in no small part to an army of volunteers and a loyal following, TMF has produced consecutive sell-outs since, growing in capacity each year until 2016 where the event reached the target max capacity of 2000.
GLASGOW SUMMER SESSIONS (AUGUST)
Glasgow Summer Sessions is an outdoor summer concert series in the city’s Bellahouston Park, attracting around 100,000 people each year for its lineup of rock, indie, dance and hip-hop stars.
After a break in 2020 due to the pandemic they came back for a successful year in 2021. Announcements for their upcoming 2022 event should be coming soon.
EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL (AUGUST)
The Edinburgh International Festival is an annual festival of performing arts in Edinburgh, over three weeks in August. By invitation from the Festival Director, the International Festival brings top class performers of music (especially classical music), theatre, opera and dance from around the world to perform.
The festival also hosts a series of visual art exhibitions, talks and workshops.
BELLADRUM TARTAN HEART FESTIVAL (JULY 28TH TO 30TH)
Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival is a Scottish music and arts festival at the beautiful Belladrum House and Estate near Inverness.
But the fun doesn’t stop at the music, with Belladrum Tartan Heart also showcasing a huge range of other activities and performances for all ages, including comedy and cabaret, talks, debates and films, and arts, crafts and circus skills.”
LET’S ROCK (AUGUST)
“Let’s Rock! is an 80s family-friendly festival in locations across the UK, including Scotland, London, Bristol, Leeds, Exeter and Cookham. The Scotland edition is held in Dalkeith Country Park in Edinburgh.
In association with Absolute Radio, the series showcases a lineup of our favourite 80s artists, such Tony Hadley, Billy Ocean and Marc Almond. Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2018, Let’s Rock! is an action-packed day of 80s madness and family-friendly fun up and down the UK.
RIVERSIDE FESTIVAL GLASGOW (SEPTEMBER)
Scotland’s biggest electronic music festival will take place in the grounds of the Riverside Museum on the banks of the Clyde, bringing together the biggest and best electrical artists and DJs in this unique and iconic location.
PARTY AT THE PALACE (AUGUST)
Party at The Palace is a 2-day boutique music festival set next to the loch facing the historic Linlithgow Palace. Just 20 minutes from Edinburgh and a half-hour from Glasgow it will provide plenty of live music and activities to keep everyone entertained.
Previous performers include Scottish band Texas, Mel C and Kaiser Chiefs.
LOOPALLU (SEPTEMBER)
Making a return in 2022 is a festival many said wouldn’t work. A festival in late September in a remote village on the West Coast of Scotland 60 miles from the nearest town, but that was ten years ago. 2018 sees our friendly, small but perfectly formed festival return to the pier in the centre of Ullapool.
Expect another year of fun regardless of what the weather has to say about it. Previous years acts include the likes of Paolo Nutini, Mumford and Sons, Twin Atlantic, The Stranglers, Jake Bugg and Franz Ferdinand.
